Acer Palmatum 'Japanese Maple' (JP22)

We’re proud to offer this rare collection of seed-grown Japanese Maples, each with its own unique character, colour, and growth potential. Unlike grafted varieties, these trees are grown from seed, meaning every one is genetically distinct — a true one-of-a-kind. Selected from the legacy of a grower who began importing Japanese Maples into Australia in the 1970s, these trees represent decades of careful cultivation.

JP22 stands approximately 1.4–1.5 metres tall and features a tall, elegant frame with two long, upright leaders that arch outward. The foliage is finely lobed with serrated edges and a rich green base that hints at deep crimson tones, particularly along the red-tinged petioles. Subtle curling and minor browning at the tips indicate seasonal transition into dormancy. With its height and strong branching structure, JP22 is ideal for creating height and lightness in a feature planting or large container display.

Japanese Maples are deciduous trees, which means they lose their leaves in autumn and winter. As the seasons change, the foliage will naturally begin to turn brown and crisp before dropping entirely. This is a normal and healthy part of their cycle. During winter, the trees will be bare, but this is actually the best time to plant. Cooler conditions reduce stress and allow the root system to settle in and establish, setting the stage for strong, healthy growth when spring arrives.
