Acer Palmatum 'Japanese Maple' (JP31)

We’re proud to offer this rare collection of seed-grown Japanese Maples, each with its own unique character, colour, and growth potential. Unlike grafted varieties, these trees are grown from seed, meaning every one is genetically distinct — a true one-of-a-kind. Selected from the legacy of a grower who began importing Japanese Maples into Australia in the 1970s, these trees represent decades of careful cultivation.

JP31 stands at approximately 1.2–1.3 metres high and features an upright form with a slender leader and well-balanced side branching. Its foliage displays bold, rich burgundy colouring with broad, sharply serrated lobes and long, elegant petioles. Some leaves show signs of seasonal wear as it nears winter dormancy, but the colour intensity remains striking. With its strong colouration and tidy vertical shape, JP31 is ideal for container display or as a compact statement in garden beds.

Japanese Maples are deciduous trees, which means they lose their leaves in autumn and winter. As the seasons change, the foliage will naturally begin to turn brown and crisp before dropping entirely. Cooler conditions reduce stress and allow the root system to settle in and establish, setting the stage for strong, healthy growth when spring arrives.
