Lomandra hystrix ‘Tropic Cascade™’ is a versatile and exceptionally hardy Australian native mat rush suited to both residential and commercial landscapes. Its cascading foliage creates a lush, flowing appearance, while its strong root system makes it an excellent choice for erosion control and soil stabilisation.
This adaptable Lomandra performs in full sun through to moderate shade and tolerates drought, humidity and periods of wet soil. It can withstand temperatures down to approximately -4°C and adapts to most soil types, with a preference for moist conditions. It is particularly useful for mass planting, specimen displays and challenging areas where reliable ground coverage is required.
Growing to around 80cm high and wide, it can be maintained at a smaller height by cutting back every 3–4 years. For best establishment, water regularly during the first 8–13 weeks and apply a suitable slow-release fertiliser, particularly in nutrient-poor soils.
