Prunus Salicina 'Satsuma' (Plum Satsuma) is a highly regarded deciduous fruit tree, known for its medium-sized, round plums with dark red to purplish skin and rich, blood-red flesh. The fruit has a sweet yet slightly tangy flavour, making it perfect for fresh eating, preserving, and cooking. This variety is also valued for its antioxidant-rich, nutrient-dense plums.
In early spring, the tree produces an abundance of delicate white blossoms, adding ornamental beauty to gardens before the fruit develops. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, Plum Satsuma is a hardy and adaptable variety. Although it is partially self-fertile, planting it alongside another Japanese plum variety will improve fruit production. The harvest season is typically in late summer, delivering a reliable supply of flavourful and vibrant plums.
