Pyrus calleryana × pyrifolia ‘NCPX1’, marketed as Javelin®, is an exceptionally narrow ornamental pear tree renowned for its strict columnar growth habit. One of the slimmest ornamental pears available, it is perfectly suited to narrow spaces, driveways, urban landscapes, formal gardens, and screening applications where height is desired without excessive width.
In spring, the tree is covered with masses of crisp white blossoms that attract pollinators and create a striking seasonal display. New foliage emerges with attractive purple-maroon tones before maturing to glossy dark green throughout summer. As autumn arrives, the canopy transforms into brilliant shades of red, orange, burgundy, and crimson, delivering outstanding seasonal colour.
Highly adaptable and resilient, Javelin® performs well in a wide range of soil types, including clay and heavier soils, while tolerating urban pollution, compacted ground, and periods of drought once established.
