Agave Macroacantha (Black-Spined Agave) is a striking evergreen succulent valued for its compact, symmetrical rosettes and distinctive architectural appearance. Its narrow blue-grey to grey-green leaves radiate neatly from the centre, with contrasting dark marginal teeth and prominent black or dark brown terminal spines. It creates an impressive focal point in decorative pots, rock gardens, xeriscapes and drought-tolerant landscapes.
Slow-growing and highly drought tolerant once established, Black-Spined Agave is an excellent choice for customers wanting bold, year-round colour with minimal maintenance. Mature plants gradually produce offsets that form attractive colonies, while older rosettes may develop tall flower spikes carrying green flowers with purple tinges. Position it away from pathways and children’s play areas because of its sharp terminal spines.
