Agave parrasana is a slow-growing, compact succulent that forms a striking solitary rosette of thick, fleshy grey-green leaves covered with an attractive silvery-blue coating. The symmetrical rosette can reach approximately 60cm in height and diameter, making it an excellent architectural feature for dry and water-wise gardens.
Its broad leaves have distinctive irregular brown-edged teeth that gradually become grey with age, leaving attractive impressions on neighbouring leaves. Each leaf terminates in a sharp brown spine, adding to the plant's dramatic appearance.
When mature, Agave parrasana produces a spectacular flowering stalk that can rise up to 6m above the rosette. The tubular flowers emerge red in bud before opening yellow with contrasting red highlights, creating an impressive summer display.
