Benincasa Hispida (Hairy Melon)

Benincasa Hispida (Hairy Melon) is a vigorous, fast-growing climbing vegetable vine prized for its elongated green fruits covered in fine, soft hairs when young. Also known as Fuzzy Melon or Hairy Gourd, this productive plant features large green leaves, trailing stems and attractive yellow flowers that develop into edible fruits. The tender young melons have a mild, delicate flavour and are commonly used in soups, stir-fries and traditional Asian dishes.

Ideal for vegetable gardens, raised beds and trellis growing, Hairy Melon thrives in full sun and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Its vigorous climbing habit makes it suitable for growing over fences, arches and sturdy supports, helping maximise garden space. Regular watering, feeding and harvesting encourage healthy growth and continuous fruit production throughout the warmer months.
