Alpinia nutans, commonly known as Dwarf Cardamom or Cardamom Leaf, is a compact evergreen ginger prized for its lush tropical foliage and wonderfully aromatic leaves. When crushed, the rich green leaves release a distinctive cardamom fragrance and can be used to flavour steamed rice, desserts, salads, teas, infused oils, and to wrap fish for cooking.
Small white flowers appear during spring and summer, adding subtle seasonal interest to the dense foliage. Its naturally compact growth habit makes it ideal for borders, tropical gardens, understorey planting, screening, and large containers. Easy to grow and highly adaptable, Alpinia nutans thrives in warm climates and also makes an attractive indoor foliage plant.
