Christella dentata is an attractive, fast-spreading Australian native fern, commonly found in gardens, backyards, and wild tropical and subtropical areas. It thrives in open areas, wall crevices, and shaded corners, demonstrating remarkable adaptability.
This fern grows from creeping rhizomes, producing light green, toothed, and lobed fronds that give it the common name “Toothed Maiden Fern.” Fronds typically reach 60–90 cm in height, forming elegant, arching foliage that adds texture and movement to garden spaces.
Like other ferns, Christella dentata reproduces via spores rather than flowers or fruit. Sori, small brown circular spots under the fronds, release microscopic spores that are wind-dispersed, allowing the fern to colonize surrounding areas quickly.
