Cleistocactus strausii, commonly known as the Silver Torch Cactus, is a striking columnar succulent admired for its tall, slender stems densely covered in silvery-white spines. The fine, woolly appearance gives the cactus a soft, silvery glow while providing protection from intense sunlight. Its upright architectural form makes it an impressive feature in cactus gardens, rockeries, xeriscapes, and decorative containers.
When mature, the Silver Torch Cactus produces spectacular deep crimson to burgundy tubular flowers that emerge horizontally from the upper stems during late spring and summer, attracting birds and pollinators. Exceptionally drought tolerant and easy to grow, this hardy cactus thrives in sunny, well-drained locations and requires very little maintenance once established.
