Correa glabra

Correa glabra is a hardy Australian native evergreen shrub growing to around 3m tall. It naturally occurs across parts of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and south-eastern Queensland, where it is commonly found in rocky areas and open sclerophyll woodlands.

This adaptable shrub features vibrant elliptic leaves with fine hairs, particularly on the undersides. From autumn, pendulous tubular flowers appear singly from the leaf axils. The greenish-yellow blooms are around 3cm long and are particularly distinctive for their swollen, cap-like calyx, giving rise to the common name often associated with this species.

Flowering is most prolific from April to May, with occasional flowers appearing at other times. Its attractive foliage, unusual flowers and naturally hardy Australian character make it a valuable addition to native, wildlife and low-maintenance gardens.
