Cotinus coggygria ‘Dusky Maiden’ – Smokebush

Cotinus coggygria ‘Dusky Maiden’ is a distinctive, bushy deciduous shrub admired for its dramatic foliage and spectacular summer flower displays. Its rounded, wavy-edged leaves emerge in deep blue-green, heavily flushed with rich purple, creating a striking colour contrast throughout the growing season. In autumn, the foliage develops brilliant orange-red tones for an additional seasonal display.

During summer, large, airy panicles of tiny flowers create the characteristic smoky appearance that gives smokebush its name. The puffball-like flower clusters are carried on dark pink stems and create an impressive haze of colour above the foliage.

‘Dusky Maiden’ is an easy-growing cultivar and develops side shoots readily. It can develop an irregular shape over time, so pruning may be required to maintain a neat form. Prune in early spring before new leaves emerge.
