Cotoneaster horizontalis ‘Variegatus’, commonly known as Variegated Cotoneaster, is an attractive low-growing shrub with distinctive horizontally spreading, herringbone-patterned branches. Its small glossy leaves are edged in creamy white and develop attractive red tones in cooler seasons, creating excellent foliage interest throughout the year. Small pinkish-white flowers appear in spring, followed by glossy red berries that add further ornamental appeal.

With its spreading, groundcover-style habit, ‘Variegatus’ is an excellent choice for rockeries, garden borders, banks, retaining walls and cascading over low edges. It is relatively low maintenance, tolerates a range of well-drained soils and performs best in full sun to part shade. Its compact habit and decorative foliage make it a useful choice for adding texture and seasonal colour to the landscape.
