Dendrobium orchids are a diverse group of more than 1,500 species native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Most are epiphytic plants that naturally grow on tree branches, using their roots for support and moisture rather than taking nutrients from their host.
Known for their elegant stems and beautiful pastel-coloured flowers, Dendrobiums offer remarkable variety in both appearance and growth habit. Depending on the species, flowers may develop along much of the stem or appear primarily towards the tips. Some species are evergreen, while others shed their leaves during part of the year.
With suitable light, humidity, watering and airflow, Dendrobium orchids can be long-lived and rewarding plants for orchid collections, sheltered outdoor areas and indoor growing.
