Dypsis baronii (accepted scientifically as Chrysalidocarpus baronii), commonly known as the Sugar Cane Palm, is an elegant clustering evergreen palm admired for its slender, ringed trunks and graceful, arching feather-like fronds. Native to Madagascar, this attractive palm forms dense clumps with colourful stems that emerge in rich red or purple tones before maturing to vibrant green, adding year-round interest and a lush tropical character to the landscape.
With its compact size and tidy growth habit, the Sugar Cane Palm is ideal for tropical gardens, courtyards, poolside plantings, and large containers. It performs well in both partial shade and full sun, thriving in fertile, moist, well-drained soils with regular watering. Hardy and relatively low maintenance, it offers excellent cold tolerance for a tropical palm, making it a versatile choice for both residential and commercial landscapes.
