Dypsis pembana (syn. Chrysalidocarpus pembana), commonly known as the Pemba Palm, is a graceful clustering evergreen palm renowned for its smooth bamboo-like trunks, elegant arching fronds, and refined tropical appearance. Native to Pemba Island, Tanzania, this fast-growing species forms attractive clumps of slender, waxy green trunks with a subtle silvery sheen and distinctive swollen bases as they mature, creating a striking architectural feature in the landscape.
Ideal for tropical and subtropical gardens, the Pemba Palm performs beautifully as a feature specimen, privacy screen, or avenue planting. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils and adapts well to both full sun and partial shade. Once established, it develops good drought tolerance while maintaining its lush appearance with regular watering. Its elegant form, low-maintenance nature, and year-round evergreen foliage make it a superb choice for resort-style landscapes, poolside gardens, and spacious courtyards.
