Echinopogon Ovatus (Forest Hedgehog Grass) is a tufted perennial grass reaching up to 1.2 m high, emerging from slender, often elongated rhizomes. Its linear to lance-shaped leaves range from 2–8 mm wide, with a scabrid or smooth texture, forming dense clumps that create a textured and structured appearance in naturalistic or bush garden settings.
This grass produces rigid, erect panicles with spikelets that are initially linear-oblong and later ovate, spreading horizontally as they mature. Flowering occurs in spring and summer, with scabrid awns adding fine detail and movement. It is ideal for low-maintenance landscapes, bushland restoration, borders, and wildlife-friendly plantings
