Echinops ritro, commonly known as Blue Globe Thistle. This striking perennial produces distinctive spherical, steel-blue flower heads held on tall, sturdy stems above deeply divided grey-green foliage. Flowering from summer into early autumn, it provides outstanding texture and vibrant colour, making it a favourite for borders, cottage gardens, native-style plantings, and cut flower arrangements. Its nectar-rich blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
Blue Globe Thistle thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, where it performs exceptionally well in hot, dry conditions. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and requires very little maintenance, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens. Its dramatic flowers, long flowering season, and robust nature make it a standout addition to both contemporary and traditional landscapes.
