Eucalyptus polyanthemus, commonly known as Red Box, is a hardy medium-sized native tree recognised for its distinctive reddish-brown, fibrous bark and rounded, silvery-green juvenile foliage. The adult leaves are grey-green and lance-shaped, providing year-round colour and texture. From spring through summer, clusters of creamy-white flowers appear, attracting bees, birds, and other pollinators, adding life to the garden.
This Australian native is well-regarded for its drought tolerance, adaptability to a wide range of soils, and ability to thrive in tough conditions. It makes an excellent choice for shade, shelter, or habitat planting, and its attractive foliage and bark provide strong ornamental value. Red Box is also valued for its ecological benefits, supporting local wildlife and providing nectar and shelter.
