Euphorbia caput-medusae, commonly known as Medusa’s Head, is a highly distinctive succulent native to South Africa. It forms a striking rosette of thick, serpentine, snake-like stems radiating from a central woody base, giving it a sculptural appearance reminiscent of its mythological namesake.
This drought-tolerant and low-maintenance plant is valued for its architectural form and resilience in harsh, dry conditions. Small yellow-green flowers may appear at the stem tips, adding subtle seasonal interest without detracting from its dramatic structure. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, succulent displays, coastal landscapes, and contemporary garden designs.
