Gmelina leichhardtii, commonly known as White Beech, is a fast-growing subtropical rainforest tree native to eastern Australia. Valued for its attractive broad canopy, lush green foliage, and quality timber, it is widely planted as a shade tree, feature specimen, and screening tree in parks, large gardens, and rural landscapes. During the warmer months, clusters of pale yellow tubular flowers appear, adding seasonal interest and attracting pollinators.
Thriving in warm, humid climates, White Beech performs best in fertile, moist, well-drained soils and sunny to partly shaded positions. Its vigorous growth and dense canopy make it an excellent choice for creating natural shade, windbreaks, or privacy screens. With adequate moisture during establishment, it becomes a beautiful long-lived tree that enhances both residential and commercial landscapes.
