Rosella is a fast-growing annual herbaceous plant valued for its attractive foliage, creamy to pale yellow flowers, and distinctive deep red fleshy calyces that develop after flowering. The upright, branching plant adds colour and interest to warm-season vegetable and herb gardens and can also be grown successfully in large pots and containers.
Best grown in a warm, sunny position, Rosella thrives in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. The fleshy red calyces are the prized harvest and can be used to make refreshing teas, syrups, jams, jellies, sauces, and preserves. Harvesting the calyces regularly also helps encourage continued production during the growing season.
