Lagerstroemia Indica ‘Diamonds In The Dark’ is a striking compact Crepe Myrtle range prized for its distinctive near-black foliage and vibrant summer flowers. Fresh dark foliage emerges in spring, creating a dramatic contrast against masses of colourful, ruffled blooms throughout the warmer months. Depending on the selected variety, flowers may appear in shades of red, pink, lavender, purple or white.
Growing to approximately 3 metres high and 2.5 metres wide, Diamonds In The Dark is an excellent choice for feature planting, flowering hedges, driveway borders and decorative containers. Its compact habit, impressive seasonal colour and relatively easy care make it a versatile addition to modern and traditional gardens. Once established, it is drought tolerant and performs best in a sunny, well-drained position.

Deciduous – foliage is generally lost from late autumn through winter, with fresh dark growth returning in spring.

Near-black to deep burgundy foliage with flowers available across the range in red, pink, lavender, purple and white shades.

Masses of colourful flowers from summer through to autumn or the first frost, depending on climate and growing conditions.
Sun tolerance
Full sun preferred; around 6–8 hours of direct sunlight gives the strongest foliage colour and flowering. It can tolerate part shade, although flowering and foliage colour may be reduced.
Maintenance
Low to moderate. Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged hot, dry periods. Prune in late winter to early spring while dormant to maintain shape and encourage fresh flowering growth. Fertilise during the active growing season as required.
Root System
Shallow, fibrous and generally non-invasive. Crepe Myrtle roots perform best in well-drained soil and should not be kept constantly waterlogged.
