Magnolia grandiflora ‘Sweet Carolina’, commonly known as Southern Magnolia, is a magnificent broadleaf evergreen tree admired for its glossy dark green foliage and exceptionally large, fragrant white flowers. Its impressive size and elegant pyramidal to rounded crown make it a spectacular feature tree for spacious gardens, parks, and commercial landscapes.
During summer, the tree produces large, highly fragrant white blooms that create a striking seasonal display. These are followed by woody brown fruiting cones containing bright red seeds, which can also be used in dried floral arrangements. With its dense evergreen foliage and attractive form, ‘Sweet Carolina’ provides year-round structure and presence.
This is a substantial tree that requires plenty of room to reach its full potential. Lower branches can be pruned to create a more traditional tree-like form, while mulching beneath the canopy helps protect the soil and reduce erosion.
