Morinda jasminoides, commonly known as Jasmine Morinda or Native Jasmine, is a versatile Australian native woody climber or scrambling shrub, perfect for adding vertical interest to gardens. Its long, flexible stems can reach up to 6 m, making it ideal for trellises, fences, pergolas, or cascading over walls and rocks.
The simple, opposite leaves are lanceolate to ovate, up to 9 cm long and 35 mm wide, with long acuminate tips and dark green surfaces. Obvious domatia (tiny pits along the veins) are present, adding textural detail and supporting a healthy ecosystem.
Flowers are fragrant, tubular, and creamy white to purplish, with 3–4 lobes and exserted anthers. They are borne in clusters of up to 20 on paired stalks, appearing from spring to summer, attracting pollinators with their delicate scent. Following flowering, the plant produces conspicuous orange, fleshy drupes up to 15 mm in diameter, providing food for birds and wildlife.
