Oplismenus imbecillis is a delicate, weak trailing perennial grass growing up to 0.3 m high, forming a soft and spreading groundcover ideal for shaded or sheltered garden areas. Its narrow leaves, up to 7 mm wide, are lightly covered in fine hairs with a pale midrib visible on the underside, giving a gentle texture and subtle contrast to planting schemes.

The plant produces small racemes with short panicles, carrying fine spikelets with slender awns that add a soft, airy appearance. Its creeping habit allows it to root along stems, making it particularly useful for filling gaps, stabilising soil, and creating lush understorey plantings in naturalistic or low-maintenance gardens.
