Pinus mugo ‘Carsten’s Wintergold’ is a spectacular dwarf evergreen conifer prized for its exceptional seasonal colour. It forms a dense, cushion-shaped mound of emerald-green foliage during the warmer months before transforming into brilliant golden yellow as temperatures fall in autumn and winter. In particularly cold winters, the foliage can develop an even richer golden-orange tone.
This slow-growing variety reaches approximately 60cm high and 90cm wide in 10 years, with only modest additional growth over time. Its compact form, colourful foliage and excellent hardiness make it a superb choice for sunny rockeries, garden borders, foundation plantings and small landscape spaces.
‘Wintergold’ is extremely hardy, tolerates drought once established and naturally maintains its attractive shape without requiring regular pruning. It also combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, Japanese maples and other small feature trees.
