Platanus × acerifolia, commonly known as the London Plane Tree, is a large, long-lived deciduous shade tree known for its impressive size and distinctive mottled bark. It develops a broad, rounded crown supported by massive horizontal branching, making it a dominant feature in parks, avenues, and large landscapes
Its maple-like leaves provide dense summer shade and turn yellow-brown in autumn. One of its most recognisable traits is its exfoliating bark, which peels in patches to reveal creamy-white inner layers, creating a striking camouflage effect year-round
Small spring flowers are followed by spherical seed balls that persist into winter, adding seasonal texture
