Rheum Rhabarbarum (Rhubarb)

Rheum Rhabarbarum, commonly known as Rhubarb, is a hardy, fast-growing perennial vegetable prized for its large, textured green leaves and thick, colourful edible stems. Depending on the variety, the stems range from green through pink and red, providing strong visual appeal in the edible garden. The crisp stalks are commonly used in pies, tarts, crumbles, jams and other desserts.

Rhubarb is a rewarding long-term addition to the garden, returning season after season once established. It performs best in full sun to part shade with fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture. Its bold foliage and upright habit make it both productive and ornamental, while removing flower stalks can help the plant direct more energy toward producing strong edible stems. The leaves should not be eaten.
