Ruscus hypoglossum (Spineless Butcher's Broom) is a compact, evergreen shrub forming dense clumps of arching stems. Its glossy green 'leaves' are actually cladodes, modified shoots that provide year-round structure and shine. In spring, tiny greenish-cream flowers appear directly on the cladodes, often followed by bright red berries in summer, adding striking seasonal contrast.
Hardy and versatile, this shade-loving plant is drought tolerant, low-maintenance, and ideal for difficult spots in the garden where other plants struggle. It thrives in full sun to full shade, adapts to most soils, and is perfect for woodland gardens, borders, or containers.
