Sansevieria masoniana, now commonly classified as Dracaena masoniana, is a striking, semi-succulent houseplant known for its exceptionally broad, paddle-shaped leaves. The foliage is deep green with irregular, light green mottling, creating a distinctive pattern. Its sturdy leaves emerge from a unique purple-banded sheath and can grow up to 1.2 metres long and 25cm wide, with some specimens reaching 1.8 metres in length.
Mason’s Congo makes an impressive statement in indoor spaces, conservatories and sheltered tropical gardens. Its architectural foliage suits modern interiors and works well as a standalone feature plant. It prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower-light conditions. Allow the soil to dry between waterings and use a well-draining potting mix to prevent root rot.
