Santolina virens, commonly known as Green Santolina. This compact evergreen shrub forms a neat, rounded mound of finely divided, aromatic green foliage that provides excellent texture and contrast in borders, herb gardens, Mediterranean-style landscapes, and low hedging. During summer, small button-like yellow flowers rise above the foliage, attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators while adding seasonal colour.
Green Santolina thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance and water-wise gardens. Highly tolerant of heat, drought, and coastal conditions once established, it requires only occasional pruning to maintain its compact shape. Its attractive foliage, resilience, and versatility make it a valuable addition to both formal and informal garden designs.
