Scadoxus puniceus (Paintbrush Lily) is one of South Africa’s most striking bulbous plants, producing large, fiery orange-red flower heads topped with golden-yellow anthers during summer. These are followed by glossy red berries that attract birds, adding extra seasonal interest. Glossy green leaves emerge soon after flowering and die back towards autumn, giving the plant a unique growth cycle.
Ideal for pots or shaded garden spots, this exotic lily thrives in semi to full shade with well-drained soil. It responds well to regular feeding and watering during the growing season, but should be kept relatively dry in dormancy. A truly eye-catching plant that delivers bold tropical flair, while remaining easy to grow with the right care.
