Scilla – Woodland Blue Bells, botanically known as Hyacinthoides hispanica, is a charming bulbous perennial admired for its graceful bell-shaped flowers and natural woodland character. Native to Spain, Portugal and North Africa, this reliable spring-flowering plant naturally grows in woodland settings and beneath shrubs.

Previously classified under the genus Scilla, Hyacinthoides hispanica is also known by the botanical synonyms Scilla campanulata and Scilla hispanica. Commonly called Spanish Bluebells or Wood Hyacinth, it produces attractive clusters of pendulous, bell-shaped blooms that create a beautiful naturalised effect when planted in groups.

Its easy-going nature and ability to grow beneath trees and shrubs make it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders and naturalised planting schemes. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following season.
