Spyridium scortechinii – Australian Native Shrub

Spyridium scortechinii, formerly associated with the genus Stenanthemum, is a charming Australian native shrub that forms a compact, rounded shape, typically reaching around 1m in height and 60cm in width. It is naturally found across scattered areas of New South Wales and extends into southern Queensland, where it commonly grows in dry sclerophyll woodland and forest on rocky soils.

The plant features small, simple, alternate leaves that are ovate to lanceolate in shape. The foliage has an attractive two-tone appearance, with dark green upper surfaces and soft grey undersides, adding texture and subtle contrast to the garden.

During spring, Spyridium scortechinii produces masses of small white, woolly flowers arranged in dense terminal clusters. The flowers can cover much of the plant, creating an impressive seasonal display. Its compact habit and native character make it a valuable choice for native gardens, rockeries and naturalistic landscapes.
