Strobilanthes dyerianus, commonly known as Persian Shield or Royal Purple Plant, is a spectacular foliage plant admired for its shimmering purple, silver and green leaves. Its bold foliage creates an eye-catching display and brings rich colour and tropical character to garden beds, borders and containers.

Persian Shield can be grown as an annual or perennial depending on the climate. It typically reaches 90–120cm in height and 60–90cm in width, developing a naturally bushy form when regularly pinched back. Small purple flowers may appear during autumn and winter, adding an extra seasonal feature.

For the best results, grow Persian Shield in warm conditions with rich, moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil. It prefers partial or dappled sun in hot climates, while plants grown in cooler northern regions can tolerate more sun. Regular pinching encourages a fuller, healthier appearance.
