Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme, commonly known as Cherry Tomato, is a popular and easy-to-grow vegetable plant valued for its abundant clusters of small, sweet and juicy fruits. Belonging to the Solanaceae family, cherry tomatoes share the familiar growth characteristics of larger tomato varieties while producing smaller, thin-skinned fruits that are perfect for fresh eating.

Originating from South America, tomatoes were domesticated in Mexico thousands of years ago. Cherry tomatoes retain many characteristics of their wild ancestors, including their compact fruit size and tendency to produce fruit in clusters.

The plants thrive in warm, sunny conditions and are ideal for home vegetable gardens, raised beds and containers. Regular watering, feeding and harvesting encourage continued fruit production throughout the growing season.
