Pot Size

Xerosicyos Danguyi (Silver Dollar Vine) Hanging Basket is a distinctive trailing succulent admired for its thick, rounded leaves in attractive silver-green to blue-green shades. The coin-shaped foliage grows along slender, cascading stems, creating an unusual and sculptural display that looks especially striking in hanging baskets, elevated pots, and bright indoor spaces.

Naturally adapted to dry conditions, Silver Dollar Vine is an excellent choice for seeking an eye-catching plant with relatively low watering requirements. Its stems can also climb when provided with support, while mature plants may produce small greenish-yellow flowers. With its unusual foliage, drought tolerance, and versatile growth habit, it makes an appealing addition to succulent collections, patios, balconies, and contemporary interiors.

Collapsible content

Mature height

Trailing or climbing stems may reach approximately 2–5 m, although container-grown hanging baskets can be pruned and maintained considerably shorter.

Mature width

Approximately 50 cm–1 m, depending on pruning and growing conditions.

Spacing

Approximately 50 cm–1 m between hanging baskets.

Evergreen/Deciduous

Evergreen in warm conditions, although growth may slow during winter.

Foliage

Silver-green, grey-green to blue-green foliage; greenish-yellow flowers; brownish-yellow mature fruit.

Flowering Period & Fruit Development/Harvest

Produces small, inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers, generally in early spring on mature plants. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants, so fruiting requires both sexes and successful pollination.

Sun tolerance

Bright indirect light, morning sun, or partial shade. Established plants can tolerate stronger sunlight when gradually acclimatised, but protect indoor-grown foliage from sudden harsh afternoon sun.

Maintenance

Low. Grow in a highly free-draining succulent mix and water thoroughly only after the potting mix has dried. Reduce watering during cooler weather. Trim long or untidy stems as required and protect the basket from prolonged waterlogging.

Root System

Fine, fibrous roots with a thickened water-storing base or caudex possible on plants grown from seed. Plants propagated from cuttings may not develop a prominent caudex.
